Shipping to Guyana: What You Need to Know
Guyana drives on the left and requires right-hand-drive vehicles, so most U.S.-market cars do not qualify and buyers ship right-hand-drive stock, pickups and machinery. There is no age limit on passenger cars, but age decides the tax. A car four years or older pays no customs duty and no VAT, only excise: a flat G$800,000 up to 1,500 cc, and a formula on the CIF value in U.S. dollars above that, which climbs steeply past 2,000 cc.
Newer vehicles pay customs duty of 35–45% of CIF, excise by engine size and 14% VAT, though VAT is waived on new petrol cars up to 1,500 cc and hybrids up to 2,000 cc. Since February 16, 2026, electric vehicles of any age pay no duty, excise or VAT. Shipments arrive at Georgetown on the Demerara River, and the Guyana Revenue Authority assesses the taxes on the CIF value at entry.
Key takeaway
Right-hand drive only. A car four years or older with an engine up to 1,500 cc pays a flat G$800,000 excise and nothing else; bigger engines cost far more.

Send us the VIN and the expected price and we estimate the total from the Guyana Revenue Authority's schedule before you buy. Reviewed October 2026; figures are indicative.

Guyana drives on the left and requires right-hand-drive vehicles, so a standard U.S.-market car will not register. We ship right-hand-drive vehicles, pickups and machinery to Georgetown and check the steering side on every VIN before booking.
Not for passenger cars. Age changes the tax instead: cars four years and older pay excise only, with no duty or VAT, while newer cars pay duty, excise and VAT. Small trucks follow a separate rule, which we confirm per VIN.
For a car four years or older, a flat G$800,000 excise up to 1,500 cc. Above that the excise is a formula on the CIF value in U.S. dollars: for a petrol car of 1,501–1,800 cc it is (CIF + 6,000) × 30% + 6,000, and the rate rises to 70% and 100% for bigger engines. We run the formula from the VIN and price before you bid.
About 7–11 days from Miami and 9–15 days from Savannah, New York / New Jersey and Houston. A shared container ($1,500–$2,300) suits one car; a 20ft box ($2,700–$3,800) suits a car with parts or a small machine.
